About the event
The greater their love, the less it may be: Tristan loves Isolde, whom he is bringing from Ireland to Cornwall to marry his uncle. Isolde loves Tristan, whom she ought to hate because he killed her fiancé. Although they know that their love has no future, they plunge into a passionate affair without compromise. But love triangles rarely end well...
TRISTAN AND ISOLDE is one of the greatest love dramas in western cultural history. For this, Wagner was able to draw from within himself, because he himself experienced an impossible love for Mathilde Wesendonck, who was born in Wuppertal and was already married. This is how a compelling, dreamy music was created, which draws the listener into Wagner's emotional world.
Tristan: Samuel Sakker
